The following is the description provided by the Then and Now page:
South Platte Canyon. I have shown
several photo pairs of this canyon. Most people do not have any idea where this
is or that it contains so much history. Back in the late 1800's and early
1900's this was the railroad equivalent of I-70. Most of the travelers and
freight in and out of the mountain's came through this canyon. It followed the
Platte river out of Denver, up Waterton Canyon, followed the North Fork up past
Bailey, over Kenosha Pass and on to several points beyond that. These two
photos show what is called Rolling Rock curve. It is named that because of the
large, round boulder above the tracks that looks like it just might roll down
at any moment. William Henry Jackson took the original photo in the 1880's and
mine was in 2012.
